Windmills
Windmills were a common sight in rural Iowa … many used to appear to be relics of a bygone era 15-20 years ago though a few here and there in the countryside would look well taken care as if they probably were still operating … with all the concern over renewable energy sources that do not pollute or poison the land, they are back in the front of many people’s minds as a way to generate electricity and pump water again. I think this is a very good thing for our world and our pocketbooks. They look great too!

The arrival of electricity in rural areas, brought by the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) in the 1930s through 1950s, contributed to the decline in the use of windmills in the US. Today, the increases in energy prices and the expense of replacing electric pumps has led to an increase in the repair, restoration and installation of new windmills.
