Tornado
There are lots of people who are stormchasers - I always think they must be out of their minds chasing tornadoes! The closest I’ve ever been was about a 20 minute drive away - I was in far north Des Moines and the tornado hit in Ankeny - in an area where they were building brand new homes if I remember right - I do remember I was babysitting my older sister’s kids and my daughter - I don’t think I had my son yet. Anyway, the light was a sickening green … it looked terrible and so very frightening!
In Iowa, there are basements and cellars for sheltering from these violent unpredictable storms. I’ve spent many an hour in one during the summer especially - a finished basement that is just like the rest of the house is not bad … but unfinished basements … full of bugs / insects … rodents … eeeek - perhaps even snakes - I do not like those types of basements (cellars are usually much worse - they are CAVES dug out of the earth and shored up or some only packed) and I had to be REALLY petrified out of my wits before I could force myself into either one. My understanding is that there are tornadoes generated in the Texas hurricanes though no one really mentions them during hurricane conversation. We do have a few tornadoes here … not many … and there aren’t basements in every house here … it could be full of seawater if we did
